Getting Downtown
Downtown Nashville is 10–15 minutes away via backroads. Skip the interstate — take Lebanon Rd → Hermitage Ave → 1st Ave and you’re on Broadway in about the time it takes tourists to find parking. Uber back is the move — no parking fee, no walking half a mile to your car at 1am.
Or take the WeGo Star commuter train. Runs from Donelson Station (5 minutes from Dreamwood) straight into Riverfront Station on Lower Broadway. Service is weekdays, Titans and Predators gamedays, CMA Fest, and other big events. Cheap, fast, no parking fee at the other end.
Grand Ole Opry — 3–5 Minutes Away
The Grand Ole Opry is a 3–5 minute drive from your front door. That means no downtown parking scramble, no $50 rideshare surge home, no 25-minute post-show crawl through Broadway traffic. Show ends, and you’re home in 5.
Pre-Show Dinner (all within a few minutes)
- Darfons — the Donelson classic. Steaks, seafood, huge wine list. The pre-Opry standard for a reason.
- Tenn-Fold Brewing — local brewery with wood-fired pizzas and a short upscale-comfort menu (grain bowls, sandos, salads). Family-friendly, live music some nights, and a great drive-thru if you’re on a tight pre-show clock.
- Hermitage Steakhouse — old-school steakhouse with an incredible fresh salad bar (the actual star of the menu, per every local review). Zero pretension, affordable, family-friendly.
- Scoreboard — casual sports-bar-plus with live music some nights. Great for groups who don’t want anything fussy pre-show.
- Nectar — brunchy, lighter, plant-forward. Perfect for the pre-show meal that won’t put you to sleep in the theater.
General Jackson Showboat
Boarding for the General Jackson Showboat is 3–5 minutes from Dreamwood. Dinner cruise, live show, and a very Nashville sunset on the Cumberland River. Great for anniversaries, birthdays, or the “we already saw the Opry, now what” second night.

Edley’s Bar-B-Que Local favorite
Edley’s is our top BBQ pick within a few minutes of Dreamwood — Nashville-locals BBQ, not tourist BBQ. Order strategy for two very different guests:
The Group Order (feeds 3–4): Fried Okra Basket as the table app. Then the Sampler Platter with green beans and grits casserole on the side. Add the banana pudding for dessert.
The Sleeper Order (trust us): The catfish plate or the turkey plate. Everyone assumes BBQ = brisket. The catfish and smoked turkey are what the Nashville locals actually order.
Happy hour + game day: Happy hour Mon–Fri 3–6pm for half-off select drinks. Every location has the game on. Garage Beer on tap — cold, cheap, exactly what you want on a hot day.
Coffee & Breakfast Near Dreamwood
- Nectar — Donelson brunch spot. Bowls, avocado toast, plant-forward but not preachy. Great post-morning-walk breakfast pick.
- Caliber Coffee — the local independent coffee shop. Actual seating, laptop-friendly, great pour-overs.
- Nadeen’s — the neighborhood gem. There’s usually a line — it moves fast. Ask for the off-menu secret cinnamon roll for the table and start with a breakfast shot.

Two Rivers: Stones & Cumberland
Dreamwood sits between two rivers — the Stones River to the east and the Cumberland River to the west — plus Old Hickory Lake just north. Most Nashville visitors miss this entirely. You’re minutes from riverwalks, boat launches, kayaking, sunset fishing docks, and marina lunches that feel a world away from Broadway.
- Stones River Access — 3 min drive. Kayak launch, riverwalk trails, and the closest quick nature reset from the house.
- Lock 2 Recreation Area (Cumberland River) — 5 min drive. Fishing dock, boat access, and the local sunset spot on the Cumberland.
- Old Hickory Lake — 10 minutes north. Public boat launches, sandy swim beaches, picnic pavilions. Bring floats, coolers, or rent a jet ski for the afternoon.
- Old Hickory Sailboat Marina — sailing lessons, boat rentals, and a marina restaurant for lakefront lunches.

- Line dancing at Nashville Palace — free lessons most nights + a full live-music schedule. This is the closest thing you’ll get to a real cowboy bar around here. Where locals actually go.
- Opryland Atrium — a wild indoor botanical garden inside a hotel. Free to walk through. Absolutely a Christmas-lights bucket-list item in December.
- Opryland Christmas Lights (November–early January) — the annual ICE! sculpture exhibit and Delta river light show. Iconic Nashville holiday tradition.
- Opry Mills Mall — the huge outlet mall right next to the Opry. Rainy-day play.
- Two Rivers Skate Park — free public skate park. Great for teens.
- Wave Country (seasonal) — Metro-run water park with a wave pool, slides, lazy river. Summer only.

- Kroger — the standard full-service grocery. 5 minutes.
- Publix — clean, quiet, better produce than Kroger. About 8 minutes.
- Aldi — the budget stop for a longer stay.

- Lebanon Road Wine & Spirits (5 min, right by Edley’s) — the best wine selection in this part of the city. Ask for a rec, they’ll steer you well.
- Support the neighborhood: Little Ms. Runaround or Nashville Grocery Gals both deliver groceries + booze locally.
