Why we made this guide

We get the same questions from families every year: Where do we eat Thanksgiving dinner? Can I order a whole turkey from somewhere? Can we see fireworks from a Broadway rooftop? The answers change depending on who’s coming, how big the group is, and whether anyone wants to cook.

Thanksgiving Take & Bake — the real local picks

If your family wants to eat at home in your rental but nobody wants to cook, this is where Nashville shines. Several of the best restaurants and BBQ joints in town let you order a full Thanksgiving spread — turkey, sides, pies — and pick it up the day before. Reheat, plate, and pretend you cooked all day.

Our family orders Martin’s Bar-B-Que every year — a whole smoked turkey or brisket that feeds 12–18. Shotgun Willie’s is our backup. Both are in the guide, along with Peg Leg Porker’s whole-turkey feast, Loveless Cafe, Southall, and a Cajun-fried option from The Gumbo Bros.

Restaurants traditionally serving Thanksgiving Day

For families that want to sit down somewhere — Jimmy Kelly’s, Drusie & Darr at the Hermitage Hotel, Carne Mare in the Gulch, Puckett’s family-style, Loveless Cafe walk-ins, Southall out in Franklin, plus a full Turkey Thali from Chauhan Ale & Masala House for the non-traditional take. Christmas lights that are actually worth the drive

Cheekwood’s Holiday LIGHTS (55 acres, over a million lights, walkable), Christmas at Gaylord Opryland (indoor, massive, free to walk the atriums), the Dancing Lights of Christmas drive-thru in Lebanon, Zoolumination at Nashville Zoo, and Christmas at the Ryman. The guide has the honest local rundown of each — which is better for families, which is better for a date night, which is worth the drive.

Holiday pop-up bars — new every year

Miracle at White Limozeen (Graduate rooftop), Howdy Holidays at Fifth + Broadway, Sippin’ Santa returning to various rooftops — themes rotate every year, so we’ll update the guide as venues announce their 2026 concepts.

Holiday photos: pets, kids, and Highland cows

Christmas card season has three standouts we send guests to: Mill Creek Farms mini sessions with their wreathed Highland cows (Cookeville, 1h15 east — books up fast), Green Hills Mall’s Pet Nights at Santa’s Flight Academy, and Bass Pro Shops at Opry Mills for a free 4×6 studio shot (dog-friendly, walk-ups accepted). NYE — including the thing nobody tells you about Broadway rooftops

Nashville’s NYE Big Bash is the free, massive downtown event — 250,000+ people at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park, broadcast live on CBS. But here’s the catch: the fireworks and music note drop are at Bicentennial Park, not on Broadway. Which means most Broadway rooftop bars don’t have a sightline to the actual fireworks. Locals learned this the hard way a few years ago when the event moved. The guide has the full breakdown of where to be for what.

Every one of our homes comes decorated

You can expect every Music City Magnolia home to be dressed for the season by mid-November — music-city-themed tree, twinkle lights on the porch, garland on the mantle, wreath on the door. We handle the decorating so you can just show up.

A quick booking timeline

• Thanksgiving weekend — book by early October for best selection. Our family-sized homes go first.
• Christmas week — book by early November. Multi-generational groups fill our largest homes.
• NYE weekend — book by mid-November. Homes closest to Broadway (Southern Charm, Mockingbird, HTPP) go first.
